It all started with a panic attack. In the middle of a busy street. In downtown Seattle.

Talk about embarrassing.

It was 2008, and I was having a hard time. My money was a mess. My mother had just told me that I may have to file bankruptcy, and I was in shock. I couldn’t breathe. My vision started to go wonky. I thought I was going to pass out.

You have to understand – bankruptcy wasn’t allowed. I had been taught that you always pay your bills on time, you never file bankruptcy, and your credit rating is everything. I had failed on the deepest, most profound level, and the worst part was, I had no excuse.

After all, I had been a budget analyst for the government, managing millions of dollars per year for 120 employees in six different states – including Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam. It’s not like I didn’t know HOW to take care of my money – I just wasn’t doing it.

This was my wake-up call.

I suddenly understood, on a visceral level, the effect that emotions and mindset had on a person’s finances. And I decided right then and there that I was done – it was time to take care of my money. It’s wasn’t a fast fix (the good ones usually aren’t), but it was perfectly arranged, and my personal process became the foundation for everything we do here at Clear Sky Bookkeeping.

I am Emily Zillig, and I help individuals, couples, and service-based entrepreneurs organize and understand their money.

To feel awesome about your money, you need three things:

  1. Simple, efficient systems to keep you in the know without making you crazy;
  2. The clarity of knowing who you are and what you want to create; and,
  3. Practical tools to help you align the “what I know” with the “what I want to build”.

Leave out one of those three vital components, and dealing with your money can feel like hiking up a shifting sand dune – energy-sucking, unstable, and discouraging.

(That’s never good…)

Combining over 18 years of experience as a government budget analyst, a police officer, a bookkeeper, and a money coach with my personal work overcoming my own money trauma, I create the systems, clarity, and alignment you need. Whether you have a shoebox full of receipts from your new business, years of data for your multi-million dollar corporation, or you want to get your personal finances in order, I can take care of the practical, everyday money details, answer all your burning questions, and support you in making the best, most aligned decisions about your money.
